True, but Laika, like Britches, is a something of a symbol. She personifies victimization at the hands of narcissistic humans.

if animal testing and experimentation never happened you and I would probably be dead right now from diseases and illnesses that we would never have beaten. Sometimes the prosperity of humanity is at the expense on non-humans. Go back 1000 years. Did people talk about how cruel we were to animals, or were they busy keeping wolves away from their sheep. It is folly to suggest that we can stop doing everything that seems remotely cruel to animal species.

Laika the dog is a hero to the advancement of humanity, not a needless victim of it.

I disagree. Humans have come far enough - perhaps too far already. There are too many people on the planet. Either way, there is no need to experiment any futher on animals for any reason. Humans live long enough now, much longer than 100 years ago. We should accept our mortality and succumb to whatever further diseases afflict us. We've screwed the planety enough already..maybe it's time for IT to screw us.
