Laika Star

"Laika Star in the sky, every now and then passing by, like a star"...Laika the Russian space dog who was sent up to die in orbit. " Many believe it was just a cruel publicity stunt. Oleg Gazenko, one of the lead scientists on the Soviet animals-in-space program, later expressed his deep regrets during a Moscow news conference: "The more time passes, the more I'm sorry about it. We shouldn't have done it.... We did not learn enough from this mission to justify the death of the dog."
Of course you don't need to go to space to find mistreatment of animals. I hope you will be one of those to give animals a voice to halt the needless cruelty and experimentation which continues still right here on earth.. A good place to learn about animal rights issues or lend your support is at the PETA website. http://www.peta.org/

Although I am a dog lover I wouldn't be so quick to condemn her treatment. In the natural world death frequently takes the form of being bitten, clawed and chewed to death by bigger animals.
