Strike up the Band, Fox Trot by George and Ira Gershwin from the film 'Strike up the Band'.
Performed by Carroll Gibbons and the Savoy Hotel Orpheans. Vocalist: Anne Lenner.
Recorded for Columbia (CA 18246 / FB 2547) in London on 28 November 1940 (notice the sentence "There's a war to be won"!)
Played on a 1936 Marconiphone 245 radiogram.

  • What a lovely machine and great sound!

  • @mic33george Thanks! But your radiogram is nicer! Is it also a Marconiphone or a HMV? My Marconiphone has a simple reciever, but I still listen to the BBC Worldservice.

  • Great sound,Exellend upload!

  • @ptm51 Thank you!

  • By 1937 Marconiphone and HMV were both part of EMI, which can be explanation for the similarity.

  • Thanks! It is a nice radiogram indeed. Small but fine.

  • Excellent recording by Caroll Gibbons - one of my favourite bands. I also love the radiogram and the very deco dark inlays next to the speaker. Looks a bit similar to my 1937 HMV radiogram.
