For our final project in my Matte Painting class, we were to take an earlier matte painting and make it into a moving image. It was also supposed to incorporate some kind of before/after pass, so I did a swooping camera move with the integrated elements phasing into the video.
The matte itself consists of several different images. The main scene is from the quad outside the ES&T building at Georgia Tech. The sky is from a high-res photograph of Prague. The other building is from another college campus. The mountain was drawn in Photoshop.
This made use of Photoshop CS3's Vanishing Point filter, which works in tandem With After Effects CS3 to convert an entirely 2D image into a 3D environment. There are some artifacts that resulted from limitations in the toolset, but I find the overall effect to be very impressive.
I don't get the changing backgrounds
