How to Create a Personalized "20th Century Fox" Logo for Your Movie Intros

What you will need:
1) A Free version of Blender, a 3D authoring tool.

2) Matt Hoecker's Blender template he created to emulate the "20th Century
Fox" splash screen (a huge thanks to Matt!).

3) The "20th Century Fox" splash screen soundtrack (background music).

Instructions:
1) Create a new folder and name it BLENDER.

2) Download the free version of Blender into the folder you just created.
It can be found at: http://www.blender.org/download/get-blender

3) Download Matt Hoecker's Blender template from:
http://blender.sixmonkeys.geek.nz/albums/album41/FOX_Logo_by_Matt_Hoecker.blend

4) Follow the step-by-step instuctions at: http://h0llyw00dy.angelfire.com/index.html

When I created this "Gordon Bros." splash screen, I used the following parameters
within Blender:

Frames: 600 (the default number of frames that Matt Hoecker used for his original
Blender template; do not change this variable).

Measurements: 720 x 480 (use whatever size you want, but I use a widescreen set
of dimensions to correlate with my movies).
I used "AVI RAW" instead of "AVI JPG" (the instructions state to use either).

Soundtrack: Just download this video and use the audio of it in your video
editing program (i.e. Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro...). It's been "cleaned" in
Soundbooth CS5, but if you prefer, you can Google and download your own audio
clip of it.

WARNING ABOUT RENDERING: The good news is that Blender is a free downloadable program; the bad news it will take between 8 and 30 hours to render all 600 frames of Matt's template - on most machines - so this is completely dependent on the performance of your computer. For example, I rendered this in just under 2 and a half hours, but I have an i7 Intel quad processor with 4 GB's of fast RAM. Hence, the slower your machine, the longer it will take to render. If you have a slow machine, turn off your virus checker, turn off your power/energy options and screen saver, and run the rendering overnight. Even with a slow machine, the end result is worth the wait, and you'll only need to do this once.

Have fun!

  • Hey thanks! I've successfully completed the 3D model, all saved. Just wondering how the model moves? I presumed by it being a clip it should go thru media player or something? On my file it doesnt give the option. Please help!

  • @SuperSaskia007 You need Blender to compose and play it... Export it and then you can play it using other video players. I exported it as an MPG and then imported it into Adobe Premiere Pro to make a clip from it that could be added to the beginning of any of my movies whenever needed....
