@astrolog7000 To spite the English, astrolog, the French supported just about every regional uprising against British authority, including those of the Scots, the Irish and even the American colonists. Napoleon followed suit and won the admiration of the Irish; even sailors sang his praises. A number of Poles were similarly hopeful that he would free their country from foreign occupation and fought bravely for the Emperor of the French.

I remember Frank singing this in Elkins, WVA back in l986. I wonder, why the Irish love the French Napoleon, and I g uess anybody against England was who they liked.
Also, Frank taught us a song, "Bonny Light Horseman," also about the Napoleonic wars.

@astrolog7000 The Irish thought, rightly or wrongly, that a Napoleonic victory would mean liberation for them.
