UHF ultra High Frequency, VHF Very High Frequency. They refer to different frequency bandwidths that the tv can tune into. Most countires usually broadcast on VHF channels 1 to 13, UHF is channel 14 and above.

i have had one of these for twelve years, basic but good. we have analog here til 2012.
