Torchlight: High level Spectral Echo Destroyer

This is a video demonstrating Spectral Echo skill with a high level Destroyer in the game Torchlight.

In game location is floor 97 of the Shadow Vault, aka the Endless Dungeon with monster levels of 106 in Very Hard Difficulty. Destroyer character in action just gains experience level 100 during the gameplay video.

Character in game has been played without cheats and with completely purist equipment (no heirlooms and no equipment transferred from any other character), although minor custom made mods made by myself have been implemented for better gameplay. Major benefit from these is the 5 minute spell duration increases, but in any other way the game balance has been unaffected. Im currently balancing several of my gameplay mods for public release, and I will be releasing them soon in the official Torchlight forums.


As for the skill itself, it seems like Spectral Echo isn't actually all that far from Devastate. With right set of skills and somewhat balanced equipment, Spectral Echo actually surpasses Devastate with the unique benefits of the skill what it gets from magical enchantments.

Pros:
- Spectral Echo gets life & mana leech affects from your equipment.
- Spectral Echo benefits from any weapon attack speed affects (either basic weapon speed or + % to swing speed enchantments).
- You can use Aura skills (like Entropic Aura & Aura of Thorns) with Spectral Echo.

Cons:
- Needs more precise manual targeting than Devastate.
- Has slightly lower damage than Devastate.
- Spectral Echo builds dont really benefit at all from equipment increasing the casting speed.


With enough of life leech and high enough attack speed, Spectral Echo Destroyers can reach almost complete invulnerability. Monsters start to have real difficulties hitting your character once your combined attack speed and knockback ability reaches a high enough level, as then monsters get knocked backed further than the rest of the mob can land a attack animation back.

How do you move and attack so fast?

@TheSiIentOne Move and attack speed mostly comes from Haste VI spell with increased attributes from Defensive Spell Mastery at skill level 10. You can also increase your attack speed with your equipment and using fastest swing speed weapons. Spectral Echo's unique property, when compared to other Destroyer offensive skills, is that it just enhances your regular attack and isn't actually a separate attack skill at all, so it benefits from any attack speed increasing ability.

So the Echo gives you a shockwave like attack?

Does Echo work on Wands? Like dual wands?

Spectral Echo works with any weapon you just can equip to your character, it's more like a passive buff skill than active attack, so it doesn't have the same equipment limitations as other attack skills. So yes, it works even with ranged weapons, basically giving you a protective "shield" against near by opponents, especially if you have knockback ability in your equipment.

Oh.. so the Echo actually protects you? Does it do any damage? I thought Echo is an "extension" from the weapon attack, like hitting wider/farther?

And how did you run and attack so fast? Most rings I got are +fast casting speed. It is very hard to find +fast attack. :(

No, it's an actual attack, but I was referring to it's "protective" abilities when using ranged attacks with knockback ability. Even if monsters get close to you, they get attacked by Echo and thus pushed back from striking distance, making it nearly impossible to hit you.

Run speed I get from the spell Haste VI. With level 10 Defensive Spells Mastery, it gives you over +60% run speed if I recall correctly, plus +12% attack speed, so it's a really potent spell for any Destroyer.

Spectral Echo is a very underated skill in my opinion. It really shines once you get a nicely enchanted weapon with some solid hp drain on it. The thing I really love about the abillity is that it is the only destroyer skill that fully scales with all of your weapon upgrades. It's just heart breaking to see serious hp drain, knock back, and attack speed boosts going completely to waste using the other skills.

I can see that SuBLiMe had already cleared this up, but he's in the shadow vault, which explains why he's level 100 yet still "in the first area of the story-dungeon."
