We used to have CAS aircraft; we even created a LARA observation/attack (O/A) plane on top of the OV-1 Mohawks we already had:

So what happened?

Why don't we have manned O/A aircraft today?

Two "mafia" bureaucracies were and still FEEL threatened by O/A aircraft: the too-fast, fighter-bomber egomaniacs and the too-slow, rotor-head helicopter pilots. Both factions would rather see ground troops killed and maimed than admit there is a type of aircraft not in their "rice bowl" bureaucracy that are needed to get the job done. Fighter-bombers and helicopters cannot do every air task needed; not even both of them together. Nevermind, that THEY WOULD BE THE ONES WHO WOULD GET TO FLY THE O/A AIRCRAFT...these aircraft would be "too slow" for the fighter jocks and "too dangerous" for the rotorheads.

There is a simple solution; both factions need to STFU about their little bruised narrow-minded, egos and DO WHAT IS BEST FOR THE GROUND SOLDIER.

  • Astonishing the military have walked completely away from prop driven FAC and ground support aircraft ... highly manouverable, huge loiter times etc, when thay have such a history of success - look at their use in Vietnam comvering rescues of downed pilots ... the FACs OV1s, 10s etc and the Skyraiders were ALWAYS called to the scene .... and in such a confused environment the long loiter times were surely necessary to keep those familiar with the situation on station as long as possible.

  • She's pretty ...

Um sorry what was the vid about ?
