Ronald Reagan was a traitor who cut a secret deal with the Iranians in order to get elected. It is sickening how the right grovels in front of his decrepit memory.

  • Hey, he saved those hostages. If the Iranians only accepted weaponry as payment and the hostages came free only because of the deal, then I am glad Reagan made the exchange.

  • @hyperseauton He undermined Carter's attempts to free the hostages. He have them a sweetheart ILLEGAL deal. How much sooner Carter would have been able to bring the Iranians to terms is something we will never know.

  • Ok, the reason he had to do that (which I agree was not good) was because the Dem congress would not pay for the funding of the CIA's war in Nicaragua the open way. This is kind of like the movie "Clear and Present Danger," sure the president shouldn't have been going through back channels to bomb the drug lord, but at the same time he shouldn't have had to. Congress should not have been queasy to openly bomb the Sandinista fuckers.

  • @JohananRaatz The Sandanistas were not saints, that we know, but neither were the right wing warlords running the Contras. The US has a long sordid history with Central America starting with the United Fruit Company. This STILL does not excuse selling weapons to Iran behind the backs of the American Public. It is an executive branch run amok. In short: TREASON.

  • In July 1985, Israel sent American-made BGM-71 TOW antitank missiles to Iran through an arms dealer named Manucher Ghorbanifar, a friend of Iran's Prime Minister, Mir-Hossein Mousavi. Hours after receiving the weapons, the Islamic fundamentalist group Islamic Jihad, that later evolved into Hezbollah, released one hostage they had been holding in Lebanon, the Reverend Benjamin Weir.[18]

  • Hmmm, how come I've never heard Sean Hannity tell that story?
