How true that is. But I here many different variations of this piece. For example, in this video you play with a fast tempo. But when I here Ostad Jalal Zolfonoun play it in his album "Del Ava", he has a slower tempo.
Don't these variations change the essence of the chaharmezrab itself? Also, is there a recording of Ostad Payvar or Saba in which this piece is performed? It would be great to here how they played it to. I heard Ostad Hormozi play it once but I can't find the recording.

this is chahar mezrabe dravish khan but he composed this for tar and setar only and ostad saba came in and composed it for the santoor.

@soroush23 Do you have any documentation proving that it was originally (and in its totality) composed by Darvish Khan? Something like a notation or verifiable recording?

@pejmool great performance certainly the late Ostad Payvar should have been very proud.
As for documentation , there is the performance of Said Hormozi who plays the Chaharmezrab with seh tar and attributes it to Darvish khan I don't think there is any doubt that this belongs to Darvish khan, Tahmasbi, Lotfi, Farhad Fakhreddini all confirm that this famous piece belongs to Darvish khan

Good to know that Mr. Hormozi attributed it to Darvish Khan. Do you have that recording? Did he play it exactly the same way that is published in Saba's book? If yes, then it might be regarded as some documentation that we can consider. It's also likely that all others have used the same source.
What Master Payvar told me was that the "Payeh" or recurring theme of this chaharmezrab was made by Darvish Khan and Saba developed it further and added more content.

@pejmool I have been working on this piece with my santur master, Ostad Bahram Mohammadzadeh Khayyat (who as a student of Ostad Payvar). The notation he gave me has the words (in Farsi): Chahar Mezrab-e Mahur -- Ejra (Arranged) Ostad Abul Hassan Saba. Ostad Khayyat says that it was written by Darvish Khan and the notation he gave me are apparently from Ostad Payvar.

@alimerzairan Thanks for your comment. I also had the same notation and originally captioned it as a piece attributed to Darvish Khan but arranged by Saba. If you read all other comments under this video, you realize how strongly people believe it is composed by Darvish Khan. That's why I made that change.
To be perfectly honest, I'd much rather not concentrate on controversial issues like this and focus on how to play it. The evidence from both sides of the argument is weak & non-substantial.
