Oregon's Famous Rogue Ales characters Dead Guy, Chipotle, Bullfrog, St. Rogue and Monk Madness partake in Portland's Urban Iditarod 2008!
Portland Urban Iditarod 2008 - The whole story
When we heard about this ridiculous event called an Urban Iditarod being held in Portland where the normally civilized and citified folks of Portland go a little nuts dressing up, drinking and running around in a massive drunken parade we said what any of you would have said...Count us in!!
The Pdx Urban Iditarod, which takes place on the same day as the Alaskan Iditarod, is exactly like the great Alaskan adventure you've seen on the Wide World of Sports...with a few exceptions...instead of sleds we use shopping carts...instead of dogs... we use drunkards...I mean...er...sobrietously challenged yet somewhat athletic individuals, and our checkpoints are bars around the city rather than small villages hundreds of miles apart. See what I mean, pretty much the same exact thing!

It was early for team Rogue as we took our marks at the starting line. 11am comes way too early for a buncha night-owls like us. But there we were, "Rogue's on the Run!", ready to sacrifice our livers and what little sanity we possessed for the greater good that is Rogue Beer. The team consisted of six key individuals selected specifically for their unique skills and ability to show up at the butt-crack-of-dawn (that's 10am for you civilians out there)
Team "Rogue's on the Run!" roster
Lexie "Chipotle Guy" Harris
Alex "St. Rogue" Gund
Rich "Monk Madness" Russo
Dave "Dead Guy" Chappell
Cheryl "Bullfrog" Gilson
World Famous Photographer- Yaaaaashaaaaa

Braced by the liquid courage and energy our special training diet of triple espresso's and morning mimosas provided, we lurched from the blocks at the starting gun and actually started running!
Luckily they spaced the rest stops close enough that you couldn't completely burn off the alcohol...

We may not have come in 1st (I can assure you we did not) or even in the first 100 or so, (we're not THAT competitive) but we did finish...well some of us anyway....The important thing is we were there amongst all the crazy people to represent Rogue and do our part to keep Portland weird! Mission accomplished!
