Sarah and I watched October Sky yesterday, and last night I decided to write out the opening theme on violin (starts around 36 seconds into the movie). I wrote out the melody verbatim and then added a second line, which I then practiced for about 45 minutes today before making this video.

Special thanks to my sweet fiancee Sarah for holding the camera and encouraging me while I complained about all the sour notes I played :) And thanks to you YouTubers for watching this!

  • Great song. Great movie.

  • It's funny how much I can relate to fowlshinigami- I'm spanish ( I'm Uruguayan, ) and learning violin, hoping to be as good as Ben some day, and I'm 14. :)

I'm trying to learn some songs that he has up on his website, and am trying to practice more. I'm not working on all of them, but I am working on Song from Secret Garden- it's so pretty!

BY THE WAY- does anyone have the piano sheets to song from secret garden A.K.A

    La corda de'ora?

  • My two year old son has been playing his violin for about a month now and he is inspired by you, i start off every music lesson by spending 10minutes listening to you play. Everytime he hears you play he runs and grabs his violin. When he doesn't want to play i say 'we must practice everyday so you can be great like Ben' and then runs and grabs his violin. Thank you so much, you are my son idol.

  • That was beautiful.

  • @Vash001

I'm sure you could bro. It is the time invested that matters to bring you to the level of achievement you desire. Optimism & passion. Keep those two close to your heart and let it be what drives you in everything. With patience, practice and focus, seldom are things actually hard. Good Luck my friend, and I hope you pursue your passion!

  • If I wasnt 22 I'd learn to play, but I dont think I'd have the ability to perform at a level I could enjoy playing a beautiful piece at if i started learning now.

  • :) could I have the music notes to this? My email is sent through a message!

    thanks!

  • i've seen this movie a million times and this song still gets to me. beautiful job!

  • wonderfully moving

  • @TheScooterHouse personally i think people can start up just about any instrument anytime in their life. the only thing i could possibly think of that someone could be too old for is drumming. i can't picture a 60 learning drums, but who knows. I started learning guitar when i was 14, therefore i was capable of bass as well, and i can drum well enough. and i'm currently learning the piano. i plan on learning new instruments throughout my entire life. i just love music and playing it!! :)

  • I should have started violin when i was young...here I am 22 and regretting never learning.

  • hahaha, at the 5 year old "2 violins on 1 violin!" that is CUUTE! Great job Ben!!! I love October Sky theme.
