On April 24th, 2009 I accompanied Ottawa blogger @SuzeMuse to the National Arts Centre to see the Sci-Fi Spectacular! Before the show there were serious fans with plenty of expertly crafted costumes from some of the biggest science fiction films and TV shows. The National Arts Centre orchestra then played powerful themes and several medleys which brought the crowd to their feet.

@SuzeMuse met up with several members of the Ottawa blogging community who were all there to promote the show using "new media" like Twitter. @SuzeMuse Twittered throughout the show and sent back pictures to dozens of followers across North America and the World who were following.

After the show we were escorted backstage to meet George Takei, best known for his portrayal of Mr. Sulu in Star Trek the Original Series. George (known as @GeorgeTakei in the blogging universe) chatted up the crowd and signed autographs.

Overall it was a great night as there was something for everyone. The National Arts Centre welcomed members of the blogger and Twitter communities and showed that these new forms of communications can spread their message with great enthusiasm.

  • I LOVE the star wars stuff

also i know more star wars than you!

  • thanks for the vid. I was there with my wife, and was so happy to finally hear starwars played by a live orchestra. The costumed nerds were a real surprise and treat. Glad they're all captured on vid.

When the lights flickered to signal the start of the show, I saw Darth Vader raise his arms into the air, like he was controlling them with the force. it was priceless.

  • I was part of that show, I was singing in the chorus!

  • Very well done! Good filming and great editing LOL!
