This is a project that I built a few years ago when I learned about liquid lenses. They are quite useful for optical paths with small diameters.

  • any updates on this?

  • Do u think this could help ppl see one day or at least see better

  • very informative. thanks

  • Would not work with crystal clear conductive membrane betwen liquids ?

  • A larger lens would be awesome, but judging by the pictures in your video it seems like the electrostatic forces determine the wetting angle, and then the meniscus is formed by surface tension forces. These forces would not be able to sustain a much larger meniscus. Anyway, I'm looking forward to your experiments :-)

The trouble with upscaling these kind of lenses is that gravity will overcome the initial surface tension and adhesion to the surfaces of the device.

The lens does work on small scales exactly how you explained, the power of these forces won't grow linear when you upscale the lens.

So in short: the laws of Physics are not in your favor when you try to upscale these devices.

Still: a really cool lens, nice stuff to play with, with a lot of potential!

  • To build your own lens, would it work if you separated the liquids by a thin diaphragm?

  • Variable focus liquid lenses have been around for a long time -- in fact, I have two of them. So do you! :)

Very cool project -- of course the technical hurdles are nothing compared to the hurdles from the company, etc...

I have a few ideas for your larger porthole lens...

    Peace!

  • Auto-adjust focus Glasses are neeed.

Eyes sight chanese over time. ( for some people 3 months)

    So good luck with this.

There rae some glasses that focus already
