@DERBENJ And you cant go broke with the Lord Malachi 3:10 says Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.
This is the only time that God says to test Him, He doesnt like to be tested except in the area of giving... God bless you brother!!!
@DERBENJ First you have to know that God owns everything and your just managing it thats what you call stewardship, if you have this in your heart it would be easy to give. God does not want your money
He owns everything remember. He wants your heart, man since the beginning of time has their heart where their money is.
Where in the NT does Jesus do away with the tithing system that was instituted during the time of Abraham/Jacob? Regardless if it was food/goods/gold or coins, we see Jesus commend people for their giving, but tells them to give in the right spirit, not grudgingly. Tithing is KIDDY stuff for the NT Christian, God wants us mind/body/soul/talents/possessions for HIS work & glory. Read the book of ACTS, Christians have all to help each other. Tithe & offerings still required at min.
Where in the NT does it teach that we should give 10% of our income back to God?
Tithing is NOT giving. Tithing in the OT was ALWAYS food & it was ALWAYS eaten in the Temple gates in the presence of God (Deut 12:18,27).
Before the Law, Abram tithed stolen booty from his enemies. It wasn't even His stuff & he never kept the booty! Jacob never tithed, he only vowed a vow to tithe, but it was conditional. God had to bless Jacob first, before he would tithe. Jacob never fulfilled the vow.
Why would you want to pay tithe? Because God commanded it, that's why. It goes to help the work of spreading the gospel to the world.Clearly you are only thinking of yourself at the moment though based on your comment.
Why would I want to pay 10% of my income to fellowship at a building when I could fellowship with believers at a park, restaurant, my house. At least it's much cheaper than at church. I agree with what someone said awhile back. "if you want to go broke; go to church.
Tithe IS giving. You are giving back to God 10 percent of what He has blessed you with. This is in addition to any free-will offerings. And yes you are correct, God says He loves a chearful giver.
