Ballada dels goytxs de Nostre Dona
en vulgar cathallan a ball redon:

Rubric: Ballad of the joys of Our Lady
in vernacular Catalan, as a round dance:

We tell you of the seven joys and devoutly sing,
humbly greeting the sweet Virgin Mary.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you, serene Virgin.

Virgin, before your labour you were pure and faultless,
during your labour and after it you remained without corruption;
The son of God was truly born of you, holy Virgin.

Virgin, three Kings from the Orient, riding with great courage,
following the star, they arrived at your house.
They offered you, one after the other, gold and myrrh and incense.

Virgin, being grieved by the death of your beloved son,
you are now full of joy, having seen him come back to life.
He wanted to appear first to you, merciful mother.

Virgin, the fifth joy that you received from your beloved son
happened on the Mount of Olives, when you saw him ascend to Heaven.
We will be full of joy if you will pray for us.

Virgin, when the days of Pentecost were accomplished,
the apostles and the others were brought together by you.
Over all, without any sacrifice, came the Holy Spirit.

Virgin, the final joy you do not find in this world;
your son takes you to heaven with great courage,
where you will remain crowned for all time, perpetual queen.

  • Very nice perormance and thank you for the lyrics!

  • Visca el Geni catala!

    The Catalan genius lives!

  • Yes, this is one of the best versions of this song because it seems unrehearsed and gives a sense of the atmosphere of the site and the way it welcomes pilgrims... At least that's what I hear!

  • I have to admit that I'm really not fond band names like "Estampie, Trotto and Sarabande." It would sound quite funny if there were bands called "Blues, Slow-rock or Western." Nice version though.

  • Ave Maria!!!
