Your guess is correct. I'm using Japanese PHS cellphone module called W-SIM which is connected to ATMEL AT91SAM7S256. This video dials to 'wheather forcast' service and hearing the announcement from speaker. You can see the LED is blinking synchronized with the announcement.
All other videos found in "W-SIM" playlist are using this module.
