  • Thoughtful interview. If PJ were not so successful I wonder if she could maintain her integrity as she states here. I mean if she had to play music, just to get by, to pay the rent, would she still wait ten years to get it right? Thanks for posting this video.

  • Interesting question. It's easier to have integrity when you have at least some money in your bank account to sustain you, but another thing altogether if it's a question of basic survival. My hunch is that under such circumstances, she would have chosen to do something else with her life if she couldn't make a living doing it "her way", without compromise. But who's to say really.

  • Indeed! However I contend, if her music did not contain the integrity that it began with...would she matter to her own music at all as she does today. :) cheers all!

  • Ha! you have a point. But I fear we're veering to closely to 'chicken or the egg' conundrum territory. At which point I would have to politely bow out of this analytical game as my pea brain is beginning to violently quiver and quake. :P

  • Yes. Most women who are so intelligent are not so comfortable in their own skin as her i find, which is a shame. They feel they are constantly in competition with men. Polly doesn't give a fuck, she is beyond that.

  • PJ is successful because she is super intelligent and intuitive. If she weren't so smart, she wouldn't worry about issues of integrity and such. There are many successful, rich people with no integrity.

  • I want to meet her.

  • :D*

  • 1:55 voice change!

  • Man, she analyzes the hell out of music.

Making a great record is a major task, but

she's making it sound like it's a chore.

An Artist will make his work and not be concerned

what the audience thinks - yes it's true.

If it's bad it's bad, and when it's good, it's

    usually fucking good.

  • she really is exceptional

  • there are HEAPS of amazing, new music and artists, you just need to know where to look ;)

  • WIFE MATERIAL

  • Even kids are jaded with the state of music today!

I love this woman, she is proof that you don't need

to do an Amy Winehouse to be true to your art !

  • She must be an interviewers dream: ask her a question and she can talk for hours!

  • I totally agree with what Pj Harvey said about, if she didnt release music, she would do it anyway, i do it anyway, even though my music isnt yet released. I wouldnt change my writing process, and i write songs anyway, because its a part of who i am too. I think all singer/songwriters would say that. Technology is impeaching on the variety of music out there, but it also enables people like me, to be heard, and have a market, to get my music across in ways that wasnt availible before the net.
