I had a bubbler explode when using an oxy welding tip on the end of my hose. When I turned the power off, the flame must have built up in the tip and line and flashed through the stainless steel wool back to the bubbler and blew out the bottom.
My bubbler gave up its life to possibly save mine.

Brass wool is conductive. It's going to create a short circuit. Use plastic or rubber pads in between the tubes.
