I agree. I never lost myself in the role. I was always ACUTELY aware I was watching Jim Carrey doing an impression.
If Carrey's portrayal had been the real guy, Andy Kaufman would've never been famous. Andy Kaufman, as we know him in this video, is endearing and lovable. But I have almost a slight AVERSION to Carrey's version of Andy.. hehe.
Andy was crazy, but he was not REALLY insane. ;-)
Carrey, on the other hand, makes him seem genuinally kinda disturbed, and I didn't like that.

When he was asked, "Just say, 'get outta hea!'", Andy says, "Na, I don't wanna do that." That is as close as you'll ever get to the real Andy. That, and the interview in part 9, was so revealing that, for all of us Andy Kaufman fans, it kind of breaks our hearts to see him be real. This gentleness in Andy, that we have always identified with and laughed with, That was Andy! His performance was from a gentle heart, laughing at the our silly "ego". That's what he laughed at!! He is MISSED!!!

I wish they didn't cast Carrey to play him in MOTM. What a disappointment. WIth Carrey it's always, "Hey look at me, I'm Jim Carrey! and I'm acting!"

@neilkulp no no i agree the differences are huge but the way jim carey acted throughout the entire movie was almost spot on to some of Andy;s character bits.
-
@neilkulp Watch a clip of Andy, then a clip of Jim right after it. You'll see how off the mark you are. No offense.
-
@mostlyharmless11 jim acted almost to the exact point of how andy's stage persona was
-
Andy didn't die! He was the former drummer from REM

It is so rare to see a hollywood star seem so kind and real as andy kaufman is in this interview.
-
he resembles Nic Cage
-
Andy Kaufman was the world's greatest act. He had his curtain call, then his exit. But...the actor lives on...
-
wowu just seen it eh...well jim did a good job
this is so much realer than the way jim carrey portrayed him

i thought he over acted. i didn't get why everyone said it was exactly like andy - nothing's exactly like andy.
