New laws aimed at curbing illegal migration in the Caribbean have left thousands of first generation Dominicans unable to work, study or travel.

Authorities there in charge of issuing documents no longer recognise them as citizens ... even though the Constitution does.

Many say it is because of the colour of their skin.

In the first part of our series on race and racism in Latin America, Al Jazeera's Lucia Newman reports from the Dominican Republic.

sir I understand that you are feeling indignant over my comment or the lack of a proper one, but I want you to understand that it's only my thoughts and some of my feedback is in fact based on actual experiences, so that is my take on racial issues. If you take that I am denying my race, I don't shame you for it. It is indeed an epidemic that so many people have such a negative mentality over racial relations. See us Whites have a different mentality to blacks. We've always been a mean spirited racially oriented people with a sadistic streak. If we were treated like absolute shit, our only reaction would be one of bitter hatred. We'd seek to mobilise and brutally punish our enemy. Its not that we're tougher or braver, its that we have the right mindset. Study White history, we've a pretty good track record of triumphing against racial adversity, Chinese, Arabs, Amerindians, we've fucked them all.
