Martha Wainwright with (left to right) Linda Thompson, Zak Hobbs, Dane Lanken, Lisa Hannigan, Lilly Lanken, Sylvain Lanken, Janie McGarrigle, Jenni Muldaur, Anna McGarrigle, Emmylou Harris, Callum MacColl, Teddy Thompson and Rufus Wainwright singing "Proserpina", the last song written by Kate McGarrigle @ "A Celebration of Kate McGarrigle" - part of the Meltdown Festival, Royal Festival Hall, London,12.06.2010
@chitchant I was at the Wainwright-McGarrigle Christmas show last night in Montreal. Rufus, Martha and Anna were the lead voices, and the whole family was there for the chorus part. It was the last song before the intermission, and believe me, a VAST majority of the audience had to compose themselves before getting up. Kate had to be there somehow.

martha sang 'proserpina' on a hot night in australia tonight, and it had many of us in tears. i had to close my eyes, and as i did, i heard a very young but very wise kate mcgarrigle. martha is her own woman, and she also carries the the gift of the wonderful musical legacy of the mcgarrigle/wainwright family. thanks martha.

There doesn't seem to be a recording of Prosperina available anywhere. Anyone know?

First time now that i see it ...have been avoiding it a bit because of the memories of Kate's RAH performance last december, but how moving, how incredibly moving and what characters... how can one not love that family....

So happy you got this as I failed to get more than the first 1,5 minutes. It was so heartbreaking seeing this. The song itself is moving, but then after seeing Kate doing it at her last performance ever (I think?) in December (Royal Albert Hall), and now her children singing it after her death ... I managed not to cry until Martha started.

Kate played this bare bones song for me on Oct 31/09. I flew over w/ her for the RAH show. Surgery has me sidelined in Montreal while all my ain folk did the show. Thanks ever so much for this.
