I met Gale ? who directed it as part of a 'meet the cast and crew' evening in Newcastle and this is her direction.

I love this version and Ted Neely, i am a christian and have been watching JCS since i was two year old. I find it has the truest insite into Jesus the man. I find both versions amazing, I saw this live unfortunatly without Glen Carter who i know has been playing Jesus for years and still does to this day.
The only thing i hate about this version is the theme song JCS I just think it take away from the show.

has the key been put down? to be fair I wouldn't blame anyone for doing that. Carter tends to do the big notes in more of a 'head' voice whereas others have belted them out which makes it more impressive. Carter's Jesus is very polished and competent but a bit of a damp squib compared to other renditions. I think Steve Balsamo's version on the soundtrack CD is the best I have ever heard it. Saying that I do love Neeleys rasping screeches on the movie soundtrack.

I had never heard this version, and i never thought i would want to stop listening to this song before it ends. It's boring, or maybe the original Ted Neeley version is just TOO good. I have to say he's very brave for just trying to do something that's already been done in perfection. That's something admirable, I bet a lot of other actors didn't dare to take the role.

I despise this version of the story... But god. I do love the new instrumentals.

Why do you all compare this version with the seventies version?
Just shut up and enjoy the music.

Although he never actually performed the role, My personal favourite version is that of Ian Gillan on the original concept album. In order of best performances of this role, are: 1) Ted Neely 2) Steve Balsamo 3)Glen Carter
The difference between Ted and Glen is the way they performe. In the videos of Ted I see that he really understands what he is singing about. After all, it is an experience that no one will ever have. I strongly feel that Glen rehearsed too much: 'I must look pleasured there, I must look angry there...' Ted is the role, and Glen plays the role. That's a huge difference.

Yes, I must admit that I far prefer Ted Neely in the role, I think his scratchy worn voice adds something to the character and the passion; I think Jesus plays better as someone without a perfect voice. The depth of feeling he gets is amazing and touched me every single time. That being said, Carter here has a magnificent voice and I don't think you can't deny he feels the passion and the pain. It is a great rendition, but a bit too theatrical-a bit too clean for me.
