Deja Vu all over again--an ode to synchronicity from the original 1937 Broadway production of Rodgers & Hart's "Babes in Arms".

WHERE OR WHEN

It seems we've stood and talked like this before,
We looked at each other in the same way then, but I can't remember where or when.

The clothes you're wearing are the clothes you wore...
The smile you are smiling you were smiling then, but I can't remember where or when.

Some things that happen for the first time, seem to be happening again...
and, so it seems that we have met before--and laughed before--and loved before, but who knows where or when?

WIKI:

"Where or When" is a show tune from the 1937 Rodgers and Hart musical Babes In Arms. It was first performed by Ray Heatherton and Mitzi Green. That same year, Hal Kemp recorded a popular version. It also appeared in the movie of the same title two years later. Then, Dion and the Belmonts also released a successful remake of the song, and made it a number three hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in January, 1960.

In 1963, The Lettermen released their version as a single. It became a minor hit for them on the Hot 100.

  • How many of you remember that Ray Heatherton went on to be "The Merry Mailman" on day time kids TV? He fathered one of the most gorgeous creatures to walk the earth, too. Joey Heatherton.

  • He had a long, rich career--yes, Joey's also a legend.

    Thanks,

    -RR

  • As beautiful and poignant as it is stunning.

  • WOW. It was during this broadway show that Ray Heatherton met and fell in love with Davenie Heatherton and together produced the most beautiful, talented child in the world... Davenie Johanna Heatherton, know to the world as Joey Heatherton.

Thanks from Paul Orofino aka Jimmy Wilde

  • @bsgs98 ohh thanks for the info. by the way, i'm curious about what's the catalogue number.

  • @predlycon This was recorded in March 1937, about a month before 'Babes in Arms' opened on Broadway. Other than than films I don't think Mitzi Green ever made any recordings.

  • @bsgs98 was this really from 1937 (and where's mitzi green)?

  • @predlycon Ruby Newman & His Orchestra

  • who was the backing band for this record? of course there's got to be a bandleader and orchestra.

  • @dmacmurray I remember 'The Merry Mailman'.

(Yes, it probably gives away my age, but I'm not telling, LOLOLOL).

  • the band and voice so evocative of such a great era for music and lyrics.
