A "costume thingy" means it's set in the past, as in a "costume drama".

Married children normally have their own home. Back in time it was very difficult for children to have their own home because they hadnt much money. Nowadays its easy because they have a very luxury pay. Infact that luxury pay is one of the reasons why we have that economic crisis today.

Parents put us on a never ending cycle of irritation....moving away only helps because it makes the circle larger.

Mine too. I cannot watch TV for 2 minutes without my mom deciding it is time to vacuum the carpet in front of the television.
The other thing is when dinner is ready, they can't wait 4 seconds for you to come up, you have to come NOW!
Amazing.
