Part 1/5: Introduction, Twitter, Posterous

I tell how the talk came together, explaining that I had been planning to discuss free tools and trends, then stumbled upon Paton's blog post — of special interest to me anyway given that JRC is one of my former employers — that blended them perfectly. The first two tools on my list are microblogging service Twitter and uber-simple blogging platform Posterous.

I delivered this talk, "New Media Workshop: Tools & Trends," April 13, 2010, to journalism students at Greensboro, North Carolina's Northern Guilford High School.

It outlines 10 free tools journalists of all ages can start using immediately to produce professional-quality journalism, then segues into a discussion of a blog post by John Paton, the executive behind a number of progressive changes at the Journal Register Company newspaper chain, including distributing Flip cameras to all its reporters and producing newspapers exclusively with free online tools.
