2008.01.09. "The sea ice is decreasing faster than all the models predicted," says Jay Zwally, the ice satellite project scientist at NASA Goddard, "We not only have the warming of the atmosphere, we have a warming of the ocean that is affecting this. It has been surprising to everybody, this decrease in area. This is a marked departure, and this is suggesting to us that maybe we are getting at this tipping point."

  • just curious...when you see a video of chunks of ice breaking off a glacier and falling into the sea...instead of blaming "global warming", did you ever consider that the ice weighs so much it just fell off because of gravity?

  • @thordoggie Sure because of gravity. I am sitting on the chair because of gravity. But is that disproves something?

  • mmm.... thanks for sharing your brilliance

  • @thordoggie your welcome

  • @glenncz Even if you ignore the downward trend in volume and focus only on extent, the 2007 record was nearly reached again. So it's not yet apparent if there's any recovery underway.

  • @13andincradiblycutt Precise predictions are very difficult in a large, chaotic system - that's why trends are more important. The PIOMAS data shows a dramatic drop in total Arctic ice volume since 1979.

Antarctic ice has seen a small overall increase, within the margin of error. Since the 2 polar ice caps are very different, the Arctic ( apart from Greenland ) being sea-based and the southern being mostly over land, their behavior to exterior forcings isn't always the same.

  • @glenncz Did you notice that the REALLY important metric, which is ice VOLUME has dropped dramatically even from the well-established low of 2007?

  • @glenncz meanwhile texas nearly dried up and blew away in 2011. where do you people come from?

  • Looks like their "predictions" are going to be completely wrong, instead of reaching some tipping point and a downward spiral, looks like ice amount is gradually recovering from the 2007 low, who would've thought?

  • shows you how much he know. head of the ice satellite project at NASA in 2008 think the ice very likely could be mostly gone by 2013. We are halfway there and his predictions are undoubtedly wrong! He'll probably get a raise.

  • downloaded and reposted!

The difference here: 2012 is complete bullshit.

In 2013 there really will most surely be a solar outburst from the sun, that will affect the earth's electronics, sea level, cooling, etc. rapidly. An outburst can affect the earth's electronics like an EMP shock.

Unlike the 2012 bullshits, the 2013 solar outbursts are confirmed by numerous astronomies and scientists, worldwide. It's not completely sure that when and how it will hit and affect in the end, but it will happen.
