MAD NANNA, the last ever avant garde band to play at Wandella Hall, before the cops were called in to talk to their amphetamine & testosterone drunken little surf jock friends, after they showed their musical preferences by swinging their knuckles at the sweetest people on earth, Li'l Stevie McCabe, Pat O'Brien, Willy Daymond and another guy who was ambulanced away with a broken nose. It was such a lovely area Wandella, in southern coastal New South Wales, and a beautiful old wooden hall with plenty of soft reverb.
MAD NANNA are a group from Melbourne currently featuring Michael Zulicki (guitar), Pat O'Brien (guitar), Ian Wadley (drums), and Jesse Dimmick (violin), interested in story telling and improvisation. Focused around the awkward but propellant song structures of guitarist Michael Zulicki, the band capture in a fragile web of sound the DIY simplicity of Moe Tucker, the psychedelic outsider folk-pop of Pip Proud and the existential otherness of Jandek.
