The two rounds of talks between the European Union and the Sri Lanka delegation served as a confidence building measure.

Sri Lanka's Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg and the E.U. Ravinatha Aryasinha said that the Sri Lankan delegation to the talks held in Brussels was led by the Attorney General. The Sri Lankan Ambassador noted that the talks held in March and May had served as a useful confidence building measure, when the relationship with Sri Lanka was coloured by differing perceptions over the ramifications of Sri Lanka's continued struggle with the LTTE. Ambassador Aryasinha made this observation when he participated in a round table discussion titled "The EU's future relations with Sri Lanka, Trade and the GSP plus issue", hosted by the European Institute for Asian Studies in Brussels recently. As regards the GSP plus issue, the Sri Lanka delegation had pointed out that with the end of the extraordinary situation of terror, the country is returning to normalcy accompanied by on-going efforts towards further strengthening good governance.
