  • Naomi, All of this oiley goo only a few feet from the surface. Wouldn't you consider this to be a naturally created "environmental disaster"?

  • People, I have seen these things, as far as I know they are only shells of steel and iron, they contain no chemicals or pollutants. If a mishap or accident did happen they would not endanger the enviroment. There are hundreds of big rigs on this road everyday. Fuel tankers and logging and general transport they are actually more dangerous than these big rigs. I say limit the use, charge them a heavy fee make them bond in case of accidients and make sure there are no mishaps. Whats the big deal?

  • Only in Idaho could this insanity take place.

  • Yes, thank you Naomi for voicing those thoughts. The Lochsa is vulnerable. Each year there seems to be a tractor/trailer accident, many accident actually, that harms this beautiful river and ecosystem. The most recent accident was only a month ago & many gallons of diesel fuel were spilled into the river. I have seen loads of lumber, apples, household goods, and even beer kegs spilled into the river from the road. How can this road even be considered for "mega-load, monster truck" passage?

  • Great to see this clip of Naomi Klein talking about mega-loads on Highway 12 issue. Just a tip on taping: Hard to hear her voice. If you're using only on-camera mic, get closer to speaker next time... shoot wide to show setting. Thanks for your work.
