Slipknot -- Grateful Dead: Jim Richter, mandolin

Many moons ago, I aspired to be a Dead-head, in my tie-dyes, long hair, and malodorous hippie glory.

Blues for Allah, along w/ Terrapin Station and Workingman's Dead, will be among some of my favorite albums for a long time. Though I've played Franklin's Tower (from Blues for Allah) with a variety of people, I've never learned Slipknot, which is the connecting space from Help on the Way to Franklin's Tower.

bluesaco suggested I post a mandolin version of the tune as he thought he would sound good on mandolin. I agree! It sounds like something the DGQ would do.

I've not gone through the whole tune. It's mainly the intro which I play here, jam space, and a return to some of the motifs of the intro (the diminished runs and then the minor 7 triad walkdown leading into Franklin's Tower).

Hey man, there's a contest for Grateful Dead cover songs on Dead 'dot' net. All you have to do is put "DeadCoversProject" in the tags for this video. (pretty sure all as one word, but not sure if it matters) Anyway, I saw the contest and thought of this video. Probably worth checking out, though knowing the GD the "prizes" for this "contest" might not be anything of monetary value. (but what's money when you have music?)
