Last week I was pounding the pavement in San Francisco, looking for jobs and networking with friends when I saw a line that went out the door and around two corners of the block. My first thought was that this was my first sighting of an unemployment line. Then I looked closer and the building was the San Francisco Fire Department. Apparently the Fire Department had announced that they would be hiring 200 entry level firemen and over 1,200 people turned out for a shot at this stable career that also fetches pretty hefty salary, starting at over $68,000. I would have dropped everything and gotten in line myself, but unfortunately, I learned that this line was actually for submitting the application that you needed to pickup two days before. So instead I grabbed my camera to explore what kind of unemploymentality I could find in the line. Heres what I got.
Two left feet2, you have no idea what firefighters have to do and go through. You have totally been pointed in the wrong direction if you think firefighters only sleep allday...

HAHA! Most firemen are lucky to get less than 5 calls a night, never mind that SFFD is a VERY busy department. And you do need an education in this business as it is incredibly competitive.

Of course there's a line! What other job pays you $100,000 to sleep, with a full pension after 30 years of sleeping? And, you need no education whatsoever. Even better, the job is far safer than many, many other physical jobs. It's well worth peeing in line for!
