  • I love that melody.

    Greetings from Germany.

  • Hello, Lilly Of The West.

I leaned Foster's songs in the elementary school.

Some of his songs are gentle and others are exciting.

    Very good composer.

  • Excellent! Musicologists tell us that Foster was not glorifying the Old South and the slave system, because he was a Yankee abolitionist from Pittsburgh. He was trying to humanize the slaves in the eyes of white voters, in order to promote the abolition of slavery. His songs were compared to the play, "Uncle Tom's Cabin," by Harriet Beecher Stowe, whom Abraham Lincoln credited with the advancement of abolitionism.

  • ASIANS SINGING SLAVE SONGS=WIN WIN WIN!!!

  • Very nice. I remember this song in an old elementery school songbook, although we never sung it. I suppose it would have been considered poor taste.
