@30sectodeath I like Japan. They have been a good friend since the end of ww2. There should be no reason Japan can't rebuild their Navy as they see fit. They are a fish out of water in their location and when the balloon goes up, they will be in the thick of it all.
Why should they?? Japan is no threat to anyone but threatend by everyone...
Just look where the country is located. It is close to China, Russia and North Korea. Although i doubt that Russia would attack the island, China and North Korea already had a hard time with Japan and if the UN (mostly USA) wouldnt support them they would already be attacked by China or North Korea.
Germany on the other side is surrounded by allies and has a rather small coast.
@ryanramsey Didn't Merkel change that law - and is she not also trying to repeal conscripted service? Two outcomes from that... 1) the people are weakened are more easily controlled 2) creation of a professional army that will go anywhere and kill anyone they are ordered to...
Now carriers? Which can only be used to project power...?
I think I see the direction Germany is going in...
@FelixHD1 Germany could afford a carrier and it's inaccurate to say that they don't have political clout because they certainly do. The real reason the Germans haven't built a carrier is because of their constitution. It forbids military intervention outside of Europe unless the Bundestag (Parliament) approve of it by passing a law. That is a very hard sell in Germany. Chancellor Schroder almost ended his career sending forces to Afghanistan. That's why he couldn't support us in Iraq too.
@polygamous1 -- what is madness about it. It is because of this expense that you can pray to Jesus. Pull your head out and grow up.
