On June 1st of 2009, The Tonight Show -- a late night institution that has been around for more than 50 years -- welcomed its 5th host, Conan O'Brien. Luckily, for fans of Conan's 16 years hosting Late Night, most of the staff made the move to the West Coast to work on the new Tonight Show, including Max Weinberg and the rest of the band; executive producer Jeffrey Ross; head writer Mike Sweeney; writers Kevin Dorff, Brian Stack, Brian McCann, and Brian Kiley (and more); graphic designer and sometimes performer Pierre Bernard; and blogger Aaron Bleyaert.

For those who visit the Tonight Show website, or who used to frequent the old Late Night with Conan O'Brien website and the Late Night Underground, you're well aware of who Aaron Bleyaert is. But for those who don't, he's pretty much been the window into the world of late night, first blogging for Late Night, and now doing the same for The Tonight Show. He also frequently posts a mix of behind-the-scenes and original comedy videos, which really started to get noticed during the 07/08 writers' strike. And remember those strike beards that Conan O'Brien, David Letterman, and others were sporting during the strike? Aaron and his sometimes-collaborator Jason Chillemi started the whole darn movement by growing their own in solidarity with the writers.

In a first for ShowbizMonkeys.com, Aaron was nice enough -- in the midst of the insanely hectic preparation for the launch of the new Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien at the end of May -- to answer questions posed by ShowbizMonkeys.com visitors from the offices of The Tonight Show in Universal Studios Hollywood. Watch for an explanation on what Aaron does for the show, how he was adjusting to the move from NYC to L.A., his opinions on Conan O'Brien as a boss, and much more!

  • whats the the song in the beginning it sounds great! is that the roots?

  • @zebrakidd It's a hip-hop group called Grand Analog (very much in the vein of The Roots -- live hip-hop tinged with rock, reggae, dub, and soul). They have videos all over YouTube.

  • Funny guy. One thing though, I don't know anything about him but I suppose he lived in New York and moved to LA and compare the two coasts saying that is always sunny in California (good) and New York is about crowded subway with smelly people (bad) c'mon is that all that New York meant for you? You should have gone out more. Now that the show is over he's probably going to have a lot of time to enjoy the sun in California. If he's not back east of course.

  • @Robertonyc My guess is that he didn't want to slag on his new home, especially since people were worried about moving to Los Angeles. I know, in speaking with him beforehand, that he loved his time in New York City.

I kind of get what he meant, though -- I love NYC (favourite city in the world), but I also love great weather, the sun, and the ocean. Each have their strengths and annoyances. :)
