  • Good for you. Rumi has a famous poem saying that everybody will one day start searching for their roots. Iranian identity in some form is always there and a part of us, sometimes a song or a sound or a nostalgic smell takes us back...

  • @alite1976 Yes she quite a discovery - just checked her out. A kind of Persian Cleo Laine - amazing voice. Completely different style from Shahrzad We need them both to tour over here! Yes i saw a video with Shahrzad and her mum in it. Fascinating. It just makes the song Az Man taa man and its story all the more poignent.. So smitten am I by it (and the song) that I've taken it for the title of a book I've written.

  • @jezkn you're referring to a central problem w/ Iranian music. Either vocals are good/ lyrics are good/ at best melody, but never all - after the revolution it's been a struggle. In case the case of Sepanlou she started late, so she needs someone to create her music for her (i.e. not a musician). Her parents were cultured so she is more careful in lyrics & indeed gifted with a nice voice, but that's were it stops. Google Rana Farhan "how sweet the sugar". Two of them have been touring the U.S.

  • @alite1976 Thanks for this. I just wish she'd come over to UK and perform here. Her voice is out of this world. I do believe if Az Man taa Man got wider coverage amongst non-Persian audience it could be 'big hit'.

This song is a bit of a mish mash. Opening is good, her singing is sensational, but it hasn't got structure of Az Man (or the melody) and has some really dodgy bits like 1.42, 2.44 and naff drumming at 3.00. It's a tribute to her that she can make it sound better than it is.

  • @jezkn movafegham both on her best song being Az man taa man, also in her not having achieved her full potential as of yet. However, unfortunately Iranian artists in L.A. and diaspora in general face a balancing dilemma today between producing quality work and making a profit. The L.A. audience is especially conditioned towards pure commercial music. Bamahang productions was a first step in the right direction.

  • You've been on an uploading spree over last few months -thanks! Ive listened to virtually entire output so far. She's got so much talent/stage presence/charisma/gorgeous voice its not true. BUT (and its a big BUT) - Ive heard nothing remotely up to the standard of Az Man taa Man. A lot of it is very samy and it is therefore the MATERIAL that lets her down. OK - if the Persian market is satisfied- Fine. But I KNOW what potential this Gal has got. Find her the right material and she'll deliver ...
