  • Let me get this straight.... when they mean systems available in 2010 they mean servers not PC'S?

If that is the case screw that im buying my i7 processor now.

If it means PC's i'll just kick back and relax till 2010

  • yes, this processor is for servers only and then servers with 4 or more processors.

  • For people asking about this CPU's relation to Windows 7 and Core i7, let me clarify:

-1 its not like the Core i7 because of 2x the cores and 4 QPIs not just one.

-2 Windows 7 will not support anything more than 2 sockets.

-3 This CPU is a MP Server CPU and NOT an ordinary desktop CPU.

-4 You need the less-graphics-capable Windows Server 2008 R2 to get the results they are getting (sorry for gamers).

-5 This is NOT targeted to consumers (Windows can't address more than 192 GB which isn't enough)

  • not if we are talking about raytracing, physX or RTS. In RTS there is no limit for useable the cpu-power.

  • ufcourse u can.. but for what? i7 is morethan enough for gaming pc

  • I am in the design stage of my new line workstations and from what i can see the xeon 5500 is just a re-named corei7. If we develop today on a xeon its aimed to run on future corei7-8-9 etc processors. How can we get that high end multithread multicore supercomputing in a workstation for kernel and graphics development and superfast compile times?

  • Is the Xeon Intel Procesor gonna be in the Windows 7 Version? and is it gonna be better than the i7 Intel Procesor?

  • thanks =) you too.

  • yes, it might be like you're saying...and about us, home users...who want a good game with a veryy extreme super processor? we can't upgrade for example from i7 975 to this??? thats frustrating....

    take care YNKOED ^^

  • I think that theyre extra durable, theyre meant to run 24/7/365
