Snow throwers help to relieve the drudgery of snow removal.
They are easy to start, maneuver, maintain and help make a big job more manageable.
To select the ideal SnowThrower, consider the size of the area that you will need to clear and the amount of snowfall you typically receive.
A Single-Stage SnowThrower is unique in that it uses a rubber-bladed snow-auger to not only project snow but also to propel itself along.
Just tip the unit up, allow the auger to grab the surface, then simply follow and guide from behind.
Perfect for light, non-icy snowfalls on smooth driveways.
A Two-Stage SnowThrower can manage much larger areas and clear deeper hard-packed snow including the pile at the end of your driveway left by the snowplow.
The first stage refers to the metal augers that chop and chew through deep, hard-packed snow.
In the second stage, an impeller device pulls in the prepared snow, then projects it out through a chute.
Two-Stage SnowThrowers are also self-propelled and are driven by the wheels.
There is no pushing involved.
Just guide and let the machine do the work.
Typically, machines with wider clearing paths have larger engines.
This way, you always can be assured of ample power and performance.
You'll also find that as size and widths increase, so do the comfort, convenience and performance features.
For example, full-featured models have Panel Shifting with an extended range of forward and reverse speeds.
This helps you remain upright and comfortable.
To aim the rotation of the chute, reach down and rotate the crank.
As you move up in models, you'll find dash mounted pitch control levers and even an articulating joystick model in the premium range.
Some models are equipped with a Drift Cutter, which slices along the edge of a pile and leaves you with a sculpted edge.
All modern SnowThrowers feature tires with an aggressive tread, eliminating the need for chains.
You'll also find Steering Assist on some full-featured models.
Pulling up on the trigger isolates drive to the opposite side giving you effortless agility with your machine.
Some models even feature Heated Grips, which can be felt and appreciated through a gloved hand.
Before starting your SnowThrower, check your oil level as indicated on the dipstick and make sure that you have enough fuel for the job.
To start the machine, insert the safety key.
Prime the carburetor.
Position the Choke in the Full position.
Move the Throttle Lever over to the Fast--Run position.
Then Pull
Many two-stage and single stage machines come equipped with an electric start, which eliminates the need for a pull cord.
As the engine warms up, less choke is required.
So, begin to incrementally dial-back the choke until it is completely off and the engine is running smoothly.
Engage the auger with the left hand lever, advance the wheel drive with the right and then follow and guide from behind, letting the machine clear a path.
Finally, be sure to review the supplied manual and follow all recommended maintenance and operating procedures.
It is the best way to stay safe, protect your investment and get the most out of your SnowThrower.
