Belief in Purgatory is a Doctrine of the Catholic Faith. A Doctrine is a teaching that MUST be believed by Catholics in good standing. Please see below for the definition of Religion. I'm just saying, if you are going to have a Religion, it is good to embrace Catholic beliefs. However, one does not have to be a Catholic in order to be religious, but one does have to be genuinely and sincerely virtuous.
-
RELIGION: The moral virtue by which a person is disposed to render to God the worship and service he deserves. It is sometimes identified with the virtue of justice toward God, Whose rights are rooted in his complete dominion over all creation. Religion is also a composite of all the virtues that arise from a human being's relationship to God as the author of his or her being. Religion thus corresponds to the practice of piety toward God as Creator of the universe. Fr. John Hardon, Cath Dic.

Eternal rest grant unto them, Oh Lord, and may the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen

@johnthreesixteen316 I am a mission based man. find the men who chose the books in the bible prior to 500 A.D. For they most have been blessed to know what to put. so what is there to fear of the founding fathers of christianity that came up with words like trinity testament and many more. I know I can misquote anyone so please listen to long passages most have small books. Have a blessed time reading the history of the early church. Peace be with you my brother in Christ

@Guardian223 It really is full of holes, isn't it?

I always find it fascinating how protestants put so much time and effort into trying to cut down Catholics, when they can spend that time praying for others.

@Guardian223 Hello....thanks for the comment. The books of the Apocrypha are 'works based', don't profess to be divinely inspired, were added to the catholic bible at the Council of Trent to support catholic doctrines, were never spoken of by the New Testament authors or Jesus Christ etc. These books don't belong in sacred scripture.

The idea of purgatory comes from the Book of Maccabees which isn't in the Bible or the original canon, only in the catholic version of the Bible which is actually a 'perversion' of the Bible.
What harm is there in praying for the souls in purgatory, what harm can there be in praying for your friends & family who have passed on before you? Prayer is just conversation with God. What harm is there in conversing with God & expressing your good will for those who cannot pray for themselves anymore. If any one has doubts about the existence of purgatory I suggest you read the Diary of St. Faustina. Personally I don't need proof but anyone who wants to know the truth will find it.

Neat! I have always prayed for the souls in purgatory.
Eternal rest grant unto them, Oh Lord, and may the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
