@faeryquene You're absolutely right, of course. And Alec Guinness as Herbert Pocket and Finlay Currie as Magwich have never been surpassed although fine actors have since played those parts. Some films just capture that "Dickensian" feeling, such as Alistair Sims' Scrooge. And if you like Jean Simmons and haven't seen it try Young Bess, It ain't history but it should be and she's heartbreaking, All the best.

@deriter64 I've seen no performance of the young Estella to equal Jean Simmons. For that matter I've seen no performances to equal Martita Hunt's as Miss Havisham or John Mills as Pip. Their version truly was the best imo.
