  • Remember the first time I saw Coco....as a sideman for Mayall. At one point in the show, before anyone had been introduced, he exploded with one of these solos that left the audience stunned. At the end of the song, during the requisite applause, instead of saying thank you, Mayall simply answered the question on everyone's mind..."Ladies and gentlemen, his name is Coco Montoya." The place erupted. Great moment of Mayall pushing his players forward, and great showing by Montoya. All class.

  • Cool story! Thanks.

  • Got the date wron, it was 2008

  • Thanks for the comment. John is just awesome. Seen him in Detroit in the 70's and in L.A. in 1980. He always surrounds himself with top notch talent.

  • Nice piece, and I do like John's bolo. Don't know why more men don't wear them.

  • Coco is so great! I wish he would perform more US venues than he does. They all seem to be on the west coast and in europe.

  • Got that right:

•Eric Clapton (AprilAugust 1965, November 1965July 1966[1]) and Jack Bruce, who both left to form Cream,

•Peter Green, who had replaced Clapton, played until August 1967, when he departed with Mick Fleetwood and then also enticed Bluesbreaker John McVie a few weeks later to form Fleetwood Mac,

•Mick Taylor (August 1967July 1969) who later joined The Rolling Stones, and reunion tours in 198283 and 2004, Harvey Mandel, Walter Trout, Larry Taylor

  • I saw John Mayall in a small club in Santa Rosa last year (2007). One of the best show since I saw him at winterland in '67 with Mick Taylor on lead.
