@RobertLamm5 - Based on much of John's other work I can understand where he's coming from, and I appreciate where you're coming from too. However, as they say, one person's trash is another's treasure. I put Taking On Water in my JM top 5. Funny thing is....like "Man On The Side" - I'll take the live solo version on the Strat and never regret he didn't properly record the song. Don't think for one minute he doesn't realize that even his "crap" is brilliant and still manages to find an audience!

This man is a genius and there are no other words to describe him. Back in Part 2 (I think) he was trying to explain the simplicity of the chord progression in a song but couldn't completely remember the chord names and said that "it's all just color and shape now". I was just like WOW! He sees music like no one else. It's pretty incredible.

What I may say, may seem controversial, but being one of the biggest JM fans out there I think I can say this. I think John didnt put Taking On Water on the album because he didnt think the song was good enough. Specifically citing his chorus. I happen to think his bridge is kllier, his second verse is eh.. theres a rule in songwriting that your vocal melody should never follow your chord melody.. and if you listen to his chorus, it does. I still love the song, and him; Best Songwriter Ever.
