  • I'd say I would've preferred the Depp version but I have this inkling that you theatre types would eat me alive for such heresy.

  • @CloverFuchs Hell yeah, we would! Though I think Cerveris' voice here makes a lot more sense if you've seen him on stage...he's going for something very different, and much more interesting, than what Depp did. I pretty much consider Cerveris the canonical Sweeney, in fact. It's a damn shame that that version hasn't been released on DVD, but I'd definitely recommend picking up the soundtrack anyway. Just picture Sweeney as being crazier, scarier, balder, and less pretty than Depp.

  • @Viraus2 Just out of curiousity, did theatre fans become upset by the Depp movie? Like hate on his portrayal and all that? I know a lot of fandoms have that kind of stuff but for some reason it seems like theatre would be a different court entirely.

  • @CloverFuchs Well, I'd like to think that we handled it pretty maturely. The Burton film was actually a pretty solid adaptation, and I really like Depp as an actor. But like everyone else in the movie, he was chosen for his acting and name recognizability more than his singing. So if you actually line up and compare the soundtracks of the movie and any decent stage production, stage Sweeney's probably going to come out far on top. And with Cerveris, the gap is just enormous. I love that guy.

  • This is quite possibly the most terrifying representation of Pinkie Pie since Cupcakes.

The Demon Baker of Sugarcube Corner.

I am both terrified and delighted.

  • @DarthNader26 "The Demon Baker of Sugarcube Corner."

Dammit, THAT's what I should've called it! Ah well...

  • It's... kinda really unnerving the way she switches between looking all grim and huge smiles, with no obvious rhyme or reason.

  • Okay, I'm a weird one. I saw the movie version first, and I loved it. BUT I also love Hearn's Todd and even Cervantis's version. All three are different portrayals of a BRILLIANT character, and I love all equally. They ALL kick flank.

As for the PMV, THIS IS AWESOME!!!!!

  • "And then I said 'Opera, are you crazy?'"

  • Honestly, I like this version better than Depp's. But I absolutely love him, but Depp doesn't sing this song as well as Cerveris. Although, I cannot find this version anywhere on youtube.
