kid=8010. You'll see two brilliant Knight sacrifices in a row by Oyama. It's amazing.

  • Hi,

    also thanks for this lession.

At 1:03 I didn't understand why to move the bishop to 5i. It doesn't change much to the move 8e-8f.

And at 9:56, the move +Rx1b is not necessary. Simply continue with P*1e and then lance drop. ;-)

Oh, and I see: probably there is a new object for BCMShogi missing, which shows the last movenotation and the movenumber to better discuss it. ;-)

  • If white playes P-8f after B-5i,

    Px8f Bx8f

    R-8h P*8e

    N-7g

If blacks Bishop was in 7g, black can't make the last Knight move, and can't decline Bishop trade.

  • Thanks for the answer.

I've checked the position with Bonanza before, but Bonanza didn't take much attention about it.

    Furthermore, it's bookmove (!!!):

    43%: B5i

57%: P6e (Bishop can move to 6f later)

But even after any other move with Bishop exchange, Bonanza gives an absolut even position value.

    Nevertheless, I also wouldn't like Bishop-exchange. ;-)

By the way: how about also distributing the Kifu-file for later easy analyzation?

  • Yes, P6e is common.

We often try not to exchange the Bishops when we play ranging rook, though it's not always the case.

If you want the Kifu-file for the games I've posted, just go here.

    wiki(dot)optus(dot)nu/shogi/index.php?cmd=kif&cmds=display&kid=8010

with the last number being the 'Kifu-ID', which I always write in the discription field of each video.

  • Question: Why does Kamiya look the same as Iino?

  • @Taraalcar

Because it's required of shogi players. Chess players usually think more strategically than tactically while shogi players need to use most of the time on the tactics.

  • @Taraalcar

To be honest, 3 move mates in chess are easy. Though I do have to admit, shogi players do think a lot more ahead.

  • How do shogi players read so much ahead? I'm used to chess where mate puzzles take about 3 moves.

  • Thanks a lot, it's next nice video. :D 5

  • Thanks.

  • Thank you so much for making all of these excellent videos Hidetchi-san! =) I'm a pretty decent chess player, and I just started playing shogi. I have to say it's an incredibly interesting and fun game! I wish I knew japenese, because I'm having a hard time finding good shogi resources in english. Your vidoes are a great step towards making shogi more accessible to western players like myself.

    Greetings from Norway =)
