@hexcane Rohrbacher's casual drift into the use of torture may sound like the expedient thing to do, but the bigger question is what kind of America are you protecting?

Being a supporter of America, how can it continue to be the kind of democracy that the rest of us put our trust in? Leadership is not just winning; it is about leading in values and approach. Torturing your enemies puts you on the same level as the terrorists. This was my point about being destroyed from within.

@hexcane Dude, the world is not as black and white as you are making out. It is not a case of liberals vs conservatives. I am not American, and I don't buy into these false divisions.

But this misses my main point. America leads the world. How do you want to do that? Do you want to drift into a regime and approach that matches the fascist and communist regimes that have been rightly overthrown in the past? Or do you want to take the higher ground?

Rohrabacher is worried about people who "hate our way of life". Yet his approach also threatens it. The ends don't justify the means, even if supposedly "we are at war".

Shows like '24' have softened us up for the mythical 'ticking time bomb' scenario to justify torture. The end result is we in the West are being led down to the lowest forms of behaviour - that do threaten our way of life, but from within. And Rohrabacher himself is leading us there.

Let me guess this straight, he starts his argument by stating it would be ok to torture someone he feels might know something important then calls the accused terrorist who just spent time in a secretive high security federal prison a liar for claiming he was tortured.
