Sometimes when I go to pick up animals the people aren't there. They leave the animals on their doorstep in a little box. Sometimes people tell me that they found a sleeping baby when really it's an unconscious adult. Sometimes that adult regains consciousness in the box and comes leaping out at me when I open it. Fortunately there are just two baby california ground squirrels in the box. They are about six weeks old, are very dehydrated, cold and emaciated. Generally they should be zipping around like chipmunks at this age. They were found under the Hollywood sign by a rescue grey hound. They will be released back to the wild. I'm a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. Mary Cummins, Animal Advocates, www.AnimalAdvocates.us

  • What happened to your hand?

  • @Jessa2005099 Poison oak scar. I didn't realize poison oak also grows like a vine up tall trees. I climbed a tree to put a nest box in it. I actually grabbed the vine to cover up the box. I got it on my hands and face, looked horrible for two weeks. The scars are gone now.

  • You inspire me. I had a squirrel in my backyard injured by a cat one year on Thanksgiving day, I didn't know how to take care of it and the animal rehab center was closed... so I gave him blankets in a box, water and food and unfortunately I think the squirrel's spine was broken since it didn't move, so it passed away the next morning :(.

  • awe so cute

  • Please put an update up when they are a little better?
