Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Howard Berman spoke in support of legislation to tighten sanctions against Burma and block importing Burmese gems into the United States. For the last 17 years, a military junta has brutally ruled Burma with repression and violence, accumulating one of the worst human rights records in the world. Chairman Berman said, "The legislation before the House today hits the regime where it hurts — in the wallet." The resolution passed by voice vote on July 15.

  • Burma was a government that sold its oil to Shell.

Chevron has financed the removal of that government and installed one that sells all its oil to Chevron.

  • With the economy and energy prices spiraling out of control these idiots are fussing around with Burma? Where's the priority? No wonder these idiots aren't respected.
