  • Sounds like Bing to me,and I can't be persuaded otherwise.

Love the tempo, love the music, love the song.

Thank you so much for sharing.

  • Glad to!

  • Thanks for responding to my info. Crosby made several sides for Okeh, "The Spell of the Blues" Rose of Mandalay"-super scarce!

But he made w/ Ben Selvin 6 sides for Columbia previous incl. Can't We Be friends?, Till We Meet, Gay Love, & 3 others. A Duo was used incl. Selvin on Violin to keep costs down in case they did not sell. He did this w/out Whiteman's klnowledge & got his hands slapped. Crosby left Whiteman after King of Jazz was filmed. Read the book "Bing Crosby the Hollow Man."

  • I'll have to find that book, I dont think i've read it, i have of course read 'call me lucky', which is a great one!

  • bingcrosby1903: 'The King of Jazz' film which 78Timothy refers to can be seen (or segments of it), right here on Youtube! It was the first musical talkie in Techicolor, and the colors are quite remarkable for 1929! I have it on VHS (I don't think it's on DVD yet), but it would be vital for any collector. Check Amazon. It demonstrates the tastes of the times, because Whiteman was not only a jazz orch.; he plays a variety of music styles, some WAY too dated today."Happy Feet" (on YT) is GREAT!!!

  • Yes, i have all the 10 or so segments that are posted on youtube on my ipod, its pretty hard to find on tape or dvd, ive looked on ebay every so often, but without much luck! ill keep looking though

  • mettanc: Sinatra always acknowledged Crosby as his influence. At a time in the 1920s when many crooners were tenors, Crosby was the first baritone to become a huge star, and in so doing, changed the "sound" of popular music.

  • before sinatra he was the man!!!

  • Sounds like Bing channeling Dean Martin.... even though the opposite is more accurate.

  • He has such a perfect voice! Very romantic and masculine

  • How wonderful!

  • Great recording cut on 25th January 1929

  • "You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger" brought me here!

  • Where can I find these early Bing recordings on CD?

  • @49kasey 1903 was the year Crosby was born so you're right, this can't be from 1903 lol

  • This can't be from 1903. He starred in High Society with Frank Sinatra in the early 50's and didn't look more than 50 at most.

  • Just wonderful.

    Thanks

  • it's Bing all right. Just starting to swing a little. Listen to him on Dinah with the Mills Brothers if you want to hear him unshackled.
