Republicans and Democrats also cannot seem to agree on how to fund our infrastructure projects. I support greater private input as well as Sen. Kerry's BUILD Act. I, however, have deep misgivings about investing in questionable improvements like high-speed rail and nationwide Wi-Fi. These investments are questionable and carry significant extended operating costs.
I am a strong supporter of infrastructure investment. I don't agree that Republicans are not willing to invest in infrastructure. Unfortunately we have a terrible deficit and debt problem that has hobbled our economic recovery. It is a very attractive time for infrastructure investment, given the low interest rates, however new long term costs from many infrastructure investments would worsen our structural deficit.

If I didn't know better I would think I was listening to a Republican speech.
Senator Kerry ought to consult with some real economists - Krugman, Stiglitz, Kuttner, Tyson, Reich, Galbraith and the like to find out what this economy really needs for job creation. That is economic demand from the middle class. That is what is missing. A big part of that is the money shifted to the ultra-wealthy, Sen. Kerry, from the Bush tax cuts.
