@McLarenMercedes it's on all of the ladas. but not for engine start(normally) it used for adjusting the valves.(the gap)

there's no money to be made on people who can help themselves. welcome to the modern world.

That's the invention that is missing in todays Cars :/
Even if the Battery is dead u could start the Lada with this simple hand crank...
And today? If the Car won't everyone calls for help but with an handcrank they could help themselve, if they weren't too lazy ;)

LOL, Wow! Hand crank eh? Glad to see it still works! Sure don't make 'em like they used to.
Interesting. Did this hand crank come equiped on older Ladas? Never seen one ever, and not heard anything about it even in the former Soviet Union.
Was this some option for people in the countryside which had limited use of electricity? Or just a back up in case the battery got drained?

@McLarenMercedes It is for backup use or if you simply want to turn the engine over easy when you adjust the valves clearance. Actually, most Soviet cars came with hand cranks from the factory, including the older Ladas, Moskvitch, Volga and Zaporozhets too, i think.

what if you crankstart it and its in gear? wil it like run you over
cliffthelightning 1 year ago
@cliffthelightning Well, the chances of that happening are very small. I think you'll notice that it's in gear as soon as you turn the crank just a little bit.

Oh, I'm pretty sure you can destroy it if you really want to. But I prefere maintaining and keeping them in good condition.
